China is a key market within the SF2030 vision. Today, accounting for approximately 30% of our global sales. The blood pressure monitor market in China is expected to grow to over 40 million units by 2030. OMD (OMRON Dalian Co., Ltd.), the Company’s core manufacturing site located in Dalian, plays a vital role in driving global growth. In August 2023, we launched a new factory at the site to further strengthen our product supply for customers around the world. At the heart of this effort are our commitments to achieving the Global Growth goal outlined in SF2030 and to realizing the Going for Zero vision.
Speed and thoughtful touch — keys to competing in the global market
To meet the diverse needs of this fast-growing market, OMD develops products that consider regional cultures and lifestyles. As the product turnover cycle accelerates with the rise of new players, OMD is also planning and developing products tailored to the unique needs of each region — such as blood pressure monitors with large screens, oxygen concentrators, and ultra-quiet nebulizers.
Integration of development, production, and sales
To achieve our Global Growth goal, it is essential to quickly understand the needs of each market and deliver the right products timely.
At OMD, we are strengthening collaboration between development, production, and sales functions, and regularly hold the Global Business Strategy Meeting.
These meetings enable faster decision-making and promote smoother communication across departments.
The keys to growth: hyper-quality, hyper-efficiency, and hyper-flexibility
To achieve growth in the global market, OMD has set three key principles:
Hyper-quality, hyper-efficiency, and hyper-flexibility.
Hyper-quality helps establish trustworthiness, hyper-efficiency aims to shorten delivery times through streamlined development and production, and hyper-flexibility means to respond swiftly and effectively to multi-product manufacturing demands.
The history of the OMD factory
OMD was established in 1993 and has since played a key role as a global production hub for OMRON Healthcare. From the very beginning, OMD has been producing high-quality healthcare devices and supplying them to both domestic and international markets. In the 2000s, the facility expanded its product lineup and enhanced its production capabilities, and it has been particularly recognized for its blood pressure monitors and nebulizers.
Since 2018, OMD has been integrating its development, production, and sales functions to enable faster market response. In August 2023, a new factory began operations, doubling the floor space and offering up to three times the production capacity of the previous facility. Looking ahead, OMD will continue to drive global growth by pursuing technological innovation and improving production efficiency.
OMD’s new factory launch
OMD's new factory launched in August 2023 with the aim of achieving its 3 key principles: hyper-quality, hyper-efficiency, and hyper-flexibility. With twice the floor space of the previous facility, the new factory offers up to three times the production capacity. The factory continues to evolve as a production hub by strengthening its R&D capabilities, advancing automation and digitalization, and promoting environmentally conscious manufacturing.
A global manufacturing hub dedicated to health
The vision of the new OMD factory is “A global manufacturing hub dedicated to health.” At the entrance, a World Blood Pressure Map is displayed, showing real-time blood pressure measurement data. Currently, the map is mostly red, indicating high blood pressure levels, but it is the mission of the OMD team to turn it green.
Hyper-flexibility is achieved through a combination of automation and skilled manual work
The new factory can produce up to 300 different models in a single day. This multi-item production capability is made possible by a semi-automated system that combines automated and manual processes, rather than relying on full automation for assembly.
Visualizing data from each department helps improve development efficiency and product quality.
The new factory has introduced the Dalian Smart Digital System (DSDS), which consolidates and visualizes data that had previously been managed separately by each department. This enables full visibility into all data related to the production process and strengthens the collaboration between sales and manufacturing.
Toward carbon neutrality with hyper-efficiency, hyper-energy saving, and hyper-comfort.
At the new factory, energy consumption has been significantly reduced, leading to approximately a 24% reduction in CO₂ emissions. Solar power supplies about 15% of the electricity needed to operate the factory. Moving forward, we will continue advancing our efforts toward carbon neutrality, aiming to become a global leader in green manufacturing.
OMD’s New Vision: A Factory That Creates New Value
At OMD, we are committed to contributing to the Global Growth and strengthening our production base. We’re not just focused on manufacturing. We’re also strengthening our capabilities in product development, production technology and quality control as we work toward becoming a factory that generates new value. To make OMD the strongest base of operations, we will continue to pursue hyper- quality, hyper-efficiency, and hyper-flexibility, while boldly taking on challenges in innovative product and technology development.
