In 2015, OMRON Healthcare presented its ‘Going for Zero’ vision for its cardiovascular business.

The vision refers to our drive to help minimize stroke, heart attack, and other cerebrovascular/cardiovascular diseases that affect people’s lives and their quality of life. To achieve this goal, we are committed to steadily offering devices and services that serve to detect and treat hypertension, declining cardiac functions as well as other abnormal conditions at their early stages.

Treatment of hypertension and heart disease was once formulated by a physician using vital signs data taken at the physician’s office. But since blood pressure fluctuates all the time, data obtained at a physician’s office alone is not optimal for identifying a patient’s blood pressure change trends. It also makes it difficult to evaluate the efficacy of medications.

In response to this issue, OMRON Healthcare launched Remote Patient Monitoring services, which enable physicians to remotely monitor health data recorded by the patient at home, then use it for early-stage detection and treatment of abnormal conditions. We are also working to provide and expand a service that uses self-monitored blood pressure data to create a personalized custom medication plan. We also connect to an online consultation service that enables users to consult a healthcare professional for medical advice.

The COVID-19 pandemic has drawn attention to, or even prompted, social infrastructure-related issues as well as lifestyle and attitude changes. These changes in turn sparked interest in remote patient monitoring services and expectations for them to expand rapidly. OMRON Healthcare is taking up the challenge, expanding into new service fields with our eye on our vision, ‘Going for Zero.’
